While plot details are still under wraps, Gutiérrez himself teased the project on social media last month with a playful photo of him holding a Speedy Gonzales figurine, decked out in the character’s signature straw hat and red bandana. Speedy Gonzales, the fastest mouse in Mexico, first zoomed into hearts in the 1950s. His 1955 Merrie Melodies short even snagged an Oscar for Best Animated Short Film. Known for his breakneck speed, sharp wit, and charm with the lady mice, Speedy has been a Looney Tunes icon for generations. Most recently, Gabriel Iglesias lent his voice to the character in Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021), where Speedy joined forces with Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and Porky Pig to dominate the box office with $163 million worldwide.
